What is the connection between C&F and the Taste of Newport?
Is C&F a state agency?
Child & Family (C&F) is a private non-profit agency that is a state contracted provider for a number of different services. For example, C&F operates sixteen (16) residential facilities for the State's Department of Children, Youth & Families (DCYF). Another example would be several of our Elder Support Service programs which are funded by the State's Department of Elderly Affairs. The Agency is also funded by the United Way of Rhode Island, grants, foundations, and private donations.
Does C&F only offer services to low income families?
No, C&F provides a wide range of programs and services to the entire Newport County community, all ages and income levels.
Do you only work with children?
C&F offers services to all ages from as young as 6 weeks to community members well into their 90s. The Agency is Newport County's most comprehensive community-based provider of social services.
Are your services free?
Some are but most services are provided using a sliding fee scale which charges families according to their income. The Agency also accepts payment from most major health insurance companies.
Does C&F offer any programs in area schools?
Yes. Participating schools in Newport County (including all of the public schools on Aquidneck Island) are offered substance abuse prevention education, intervention and referral services by C&F staff located in school buildings throughout the community.
Do you work with the homeless?
C&F operates a transitional housing program for homeless families with children under age 12. Families can remain in the shelter for up to 2 years. The Agency also provides a housing program for pregnant or parenting teens. C&F offers residents substance abuse counseling, advocacy, and assistance in locating permanent housing.
Is the Agency accredited?
Yes. C&F is nationally accredited by the Council on Accreditation for Children and Family Services (COA). For more information about COA please visit www.coanet.org. COA accreditations occur every four (4) years. Many of the Agency's programs are also licensed by the State of Rhode Island on an annual basis.
What age groups do you serve in your Child Care Center?
C&F' child care program, Newport County's longest operating program, offers care for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years.
Are meals included as part of your Child Care tuition?
Yes. Breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack are provided to students. Special dietary needs can also be addressed.
What time do your Child Care Centers open?
Child Care hours of operation at 6:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at both our Newport and Middletown locations.
What is the connection between C&F and the Taste of Newport?
Taste of Newport has been C&F' primary fundraiser since 1983. The event features a sitdown buffet with food samplings provided by over 50 of the area's restaurants and caterers. Funds from the Taste of Newport benefit C&F' wide variety of programs and services. Other locally held Taste events i.e. Taste of Rhode Island and Taste of a Nation are not affilitated with Child & Family. Taste of Newport is held annually in November.
