Groovy Girls Program

It is all too common that many girls spend years without a family while waiting to be adopted. Groovy Girls works to empower these girls by helping them to believe in themselves and learn how to build positive relationships while awaiting adoption.

In 2012, Child & Family collaborated with Adoption Rhode Island to create the Groovy Girls program.  Through community engagement we provide opportunities for fun, success and personal growth.  Girls take part in individualized and group classes like yoga, gymnastics and visits to the Potter League for Animals.

The girls have hosted art shows, silent auctions, prom dress donation drives, poetry workshops and other experience-building events.  Their efforts have been showcased in the Newport Daily News, Providence Journal, Providence Business News, Newport This Week as well as a featured workshop at the 2013 Adoption Exchange Association (AEA) Conference in Boulder, Colorado.

The overwhelming public support for this newly created program has been incredibly positive, with individuals, organizations and families providing donations, in-kind services, clothing, school supply gift certificates and so much more.  The volunteers and patrons believe in supporting these young girls awaiting adoption and in need of self-confidence to create a brighter future for each of them.
