4th Annual Townsend Luncheon Raises $55,000 for Child & Family Foster Care Programs

 

Middletown (RI) July 10, 2018 – Over one hundred friends of Child & Family from across Rhode Island gathered recently at OceanCliff in Newport for the 4th Annual Townsend Luncheon, a benefit for the social service agency. The June 20th event, named in honor of the 152-year old agency’s founder, Ellen Townsend, highlighted Child & Family’s important work caring for children and youth. Guest donations were matched by a generous $25,000 gift offered by The Canepari Family Fund, and a total of $55,000 was raised for the agency’s foster care programs.

Guests enjoyed string music played by Thompson Middle School students, a visit from “Ellen Townsend” and a buffet lunch. Speakers included a teen girl in the care of Child & Family who spoke movingly about the difficulties she had experienced, the difference Child & Family was making in her life, and her now-bright hopes for the future. Special guest, Paul Leys, then conducted a spirited “Fund the Mission” auction which provided guests the opportunity to make an additional donation in support of the agency’s foster care programs.

At the luncheon’s close, Centreville Bank Charitable Foundation was honored for its support of Child & Family’s new “Bridge to Success” Independent Living Program, made possible through the Foundation’s generous 3-year, $300,000 grant. Centreville Bank Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board, Thomas J. Lamb, Jr. said, “Centreville Bank is proud to partner with Child & Family to help ensure these young people achieve their potential despite the hardships they’ve faced.” The program provides critical resources and services to youth who need support to secure housing, educational guidance, and employment and life skills training as they work towards self-sufficiency. Centreville Commercial Loan Officer and former Child & Family board member, Sara Hiebner, spoke about the importance of the new Independent Living Program and the partnership between the bank and the agency. Child & Family President and Chief Executive Officer, Marty Sinnott, conveyed words of thanks and presented Centreville Bank representatives with a framed print.
