Holiday Giving

The generosity of Rhode Island residents during the Holiday Season warms our hearts.

During designated drop off days our hallways are filled to the brim with donations of food, gift cards, toys, clothing, cash and other gifts.  We hear stories about families and groups of friends foregoing gifting to one another and choosing to support Child & Family’s Holiday Giving program instead.  Every ounce of participation means more than you can ever imagine and we encourage you to get involved and help make a positive change.

Child & Family’s Holiday Giving program supports children, families and elders who are unable to enjoy the holiday season in the special way that most of us take for granted.

In many cases, the community clients we serve do not enjoy a Thanksgiving Dinner with all the trimmings, and their children do not wake up to multiple presents under the tree and a bountiful holiday meal with their parents on Christmas Day.  Our Holiday Giving program helps create those special holiday memories for those most in need.

Thanksgiving Basket Program

You provide a Thanksgiving basket for a family of 4 people of non-perishable food items and a gift certificate to purchase a turkey and other perishable items.  This year because of the increased need of baskets, we encourage you to do multiple baskets if you are able.  Or a monetary donation or gift certificate to Shaw’s or Stop & Shop is also extremely helpful.

Adopt-A-Family Program

You provide toys and gifts for children.  In many cases these will be the only holiday gifts that they receive.  We provide you with a ‘wish list” and you shop for the child or children with whom you are matched.  Or, we would be very appreciative of generic gifts, gift certificates or a monetary donation that we can use for these children.

Each holiday season reinforces the strength of our motto “caring for our community,” when donating and volunteering are priorities for Newport County residents.  Child & Family is one agency serving the needs of those without means to enjoy a Thanksgiving feast or holiday celebration.  Both the Thanksgiving Basket and Adopt-A-Family programs continue to offer these well-deserved families extra support over the holidays.
