After receiving a referral from the Division of Elder Affairs Protective Services Unit regarding, Charlie, an elderly gentlemen who was living in a homeless shelter in Providence, Child & Family was quick to respond and assess his situation. While interviewing Charlie, his C&F Case Manager discovered he had been paying $500 per month to a family to sleep on a rollaway bed and felt mistreated. He left the home and moved into a local shelter. Child & Family worked with Charlie and helped him obtain photo identification, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Medicaid, food stamps and senior housing. Charlie was overcome with gratitude and excitement as he prepared to move into his new home. Child & Family Elder Services provided him with a Stop & Shop gift card to procure immediate supplies for his new apartment. Charlie and his C&F Case Manager continue to communicate, which has helped this proud elder continue to live independently. Charlie is now committed to volunteering at the homeless shelter in Providence.
