Why is the Dome Blue?
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month 2017
Middletown, Rhode Island, April 12, 2017 – April is National Child Abuse Prevention month. This month and throughout the year Child & Family encourages all individuals and organizations to play a role in making Newport County a better place for children and families. The State House dome will be lit blue the week of April 10-16 to highlight child abuse awareness in Rhode Island and supports for families. By ensuring that parents have the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to care for their children, we can help prevent child abuse and neglect by making meaningful connections with children, youth, and families in our community.
Each year Rhode Island receives approximately 14,000 reports of child maltreatment. “April is a time to celebrate the important role that communities play in raising child abuse awareness, protecting children, and strengthening families, said Marty Sinnott, CEO at Child & Family. The dome being blue is a great reminder that everyone’s participation is crucial. Finding ways to build meaningful connections to families is the best thing that our community can do to strengthen families and prevent child abuse and neglect.”
